Angreal MCP Server – Overview

The Angreal MCP server bridges the gap between AI assistants and angreal‑managed projects. By exposing angreal’s command tree through the Model Context Protocol, it gives assistants a rich, structured view of what can be done inside any angreal workspace. This discovery layer allows an assistant to ask “What can I build?” or “How do I run tests?” and receive precise, context‑aware answers that reflect the actual state of the project.

At its core, the server offers three discovery tools: confirms that the current directory is a valid angreal project and reports available commands; provides a hierarchical, metadata‑laden representation of every command and task, including usage hints, prerequisites, and recommended flags; and executes any command or task on behalf of the user. Because all interactions are communicated via JSON‑RPC, they integrate seamlessly with any MCP‑compatible client such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or VS Code’s Cline extension.

For developers, this means AI assistants can automatically surface the correct tooling for a given scenario—be it setting up dependencies, compiling code, running tests, or deploying artifacts—without hard‑coded knowledge of the project. The assistant can suggest the most appropriate command based on the current file, recent commits, or a user’s intent, and then invoke it with optimal arguments. This reduces friction in complex workflows, accelerates onboarding for new contributors, and ensures that automation scripts stay aligned with the evolving project structure.

Key capabilities include:

  • Context‑aware command discovery – The assistant sees the full angreal tree, including when a command should or shouldn’t be used.
  • Metadata‑rich guidance – Each tool exposes recommended parameters, prerequisites, and exit‑code semantics.
  • Seamless execution lets the assistant trigger any task, passing along flags or arguments derived from user prompts.
  • Cross‑platform integration – The server works in command line, IDE extensions, and cloud‑based assistants without modification.

Typical use cases span continuous integration pipelines that need to discover the right test suite, IDE helpers that auto‑populate build commands for a new feature branch, or chat‑based assistants that walk developers through complex deployment steps. By turning the angreal command tree into a first‑class data source, Angreal MCP empowers AI tools to make informed decisions, automate repetitive tasks, and ultimately speed up the software delivery lifecycle.
